Everyone processes an abortion experience differently. For some, it’s an event they quickly move past. For others, certain milestones, such as a specific date, Mother’s Day, or even a birthday, can bring unexpected feelings to the surface.

You don’t have to carry this alone. Whether it happened recently or years ago, Amnion Women’s Center provides a safe, confidential space for women to connect and heal.

We provide one-on-one meetings with an advocate. We’re here to help you find a path toward hope with post-abortion support.

Give Yourself Space to Feel

It’s common to feel a mix of relief, sadness, anger, or other emotions you did not anticipate after an abortion.

It’s also normal to try to stay extra busy to avoid these heavy emotions, but pushing them aside often makes the process harder. Rather than dismissing what you’re going through, try giving yourself the time and grace to acknowledge those feelings.

Talk with Someone You Trust

Many women keep their experience a secret, which can feel very isolating.

If you’ve chosen not to share this experience with anyone, consider reaching out to someone you trust, such as a close friend, a counselor, or one of our advocates.

Sharing your story with the right person can lighten the load and help you begin to truly process what you’ve been carrying.

Take Care of Yourself

When you feel better physically, you often feel better emotionally.

  • Eat a healthy, nutritious diet.
  • Sleep for seven or more hours per night.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Try to keep your stress levels low.

Keep a Journal

Additionally, writing in a journal can help you process your emotions independently.

Whether you write long entries every so often or you keep a daily journal where you jot a few words down each morning, writing can help get your emotions and thoughts out of your head and help you feel more relaxed.
