We're here to help you find answers and get started right away.
There Is Hope
If you’ve taken the first drug in a medical abortion and regret your decision, you may be wondering if there’s still a chance to continue your pregnancy. In the middle of uncertainty and fear, we want you to know there is hope.
At Amnion Women’s Center, we understand that decisions made in stressful situations can feel overwhelming. Our compassionate team is here to help you understand abortion pill reversal (APR) and offer immediate, confidential care.
What Is Abortion Pill Reversal?
The abortion pill process typically involves two drugs. Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone needed to sustain a pregnancy. Misoprostol is taken afterward and causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.
If only the first pill, mifepristone, has been taken, it may be possible to reverse its effects through abortion pill reversal. APR involves administering progesterone, the hormone that supports early pregnancy. By introducing extra progesterone, the goal is to counteract the effects of mifepristone and allow the pregnancy to continue.
Timing is critical. The sooner you begin treatment, the higher the likelihood of success. Studies suggest the protocol is most effective when started within 24 to 72 hours after taking mifepristone, though it may still be successful later.
Is Abortion Pill Reversal Safe?
Progesterone has been safely used in pregnancy care for over 50 years to help support women at risk for miscarriage. Research has shown that the protocol is effective, and many women have successfully continued their pregnancies after receiving treatment.
In one published study, women who began progesterone treatment within 72 hours of taking mifepristone had a 64-68% success rate.
